About the DepartmentJournalism and Mass Communication, a combination of both professional course of study as well as interdisciplinary one, has been continuously serving the society in its development and empowerment incalculably. Also because of the duo nature of the subject, it has gained immense demand both in academic sector (public & private) and also in the job market. The diverse nature of the subject has also contributed in attracting most of the students. The growing trends of Information and Technology has added feather in the cap and helped in increasing the demand ratio of the subject among the new generation of students. Since its inception, the department has taken a two –dimensional approach for the students, which focus both on the theoretical side as well as the practical side. The two dimensional approach was taken into consideration because of the diversity of the subject as well as the diverse interest of the students. The focus on the theoretical knowledge of the subject along with its practical approach opens a wide range of option for the students, who may opt for further studies which helps in the development of the society via its research and development approach. Also, because of the same approach, students may opt for a professional life and serve the society with the contribution through media works. To fulfill the two-dimensional approach, the department not only focuses on traditional pattern of teaching learning but to get a real hand experience in the practical field; the students are exposed to the hard life of professionalism in media sector through various projects and assignments. The students have always been actively participating which is revealed in the form of the result, which has continuously been satisfactory since its birth, added with the good ratio of employment. In order to fulfill its objective, the department has a well- equipped media laboratory where all the practical trainings are imparted including the Audio-Visual production. The Students of the department also bring out a laboratory journal “The Scribe” and prepare documentary films and other audio-visual programs in the department laboratory. The student of this department also participates actively in all the co-curricular activities of the college and in NCC and NSS.
