About the DepartmentMuralidhar Girls' College (establishedin1940) opened its doors to offer tertiary education to students, essentially coming from humble backgrounds and hailing from the suburbs of Kolkata. The department of History set up as early as 1940 always remained loyal to this primary aim. Stalwarts like Prof. Narahari Kabiraj, Nirmalya Bagchi, who were associated with the department from its inception, not only enriched the department and students with their profound scholarship and vision but also empowered the latter with the confidence to stand against all odds in life. Prof. Deepika Basu and Prof. Nandini Sen also joined hands and spared no efforts to make the department a noted one. The present faculty is carrying on the same legacy and providing students with contemporary theoretical and technological assistance for better understanding of the subject. The department offers both Honours and General courses under The University of Calcutta. The department presently has four full time teachers and also a rich seminar library. Study of History will remain essential and relevant for generations to come as, we all know, the future of mankind lies in the womb of the past. Faculty |
