About the Deaprtment

In 1963, the Department of Education was established to encourage female students, especially first generation learners. In 1966, Education Department introduced Honours course to encourage inclusive women empowerment.

Presently, the department offers Under Graduate Courses for both Honours and General streams. Students’ performance is evaluated by both internal and external forms of evaluation. Midterm and test examination are conducted as means to evaluate the students comprehensively by departmental faculties.  At the end of each semester, the University of Calcutta conducts external examinations for promoting students to the subsequent class. There are two Assistant Professors, one Associate Professor and two State Aided College Teachers (SACT) in the department. All the departmental faculties are very much aware of the developmental stages of the students and encourage them to be good and responsible human beings. Since Education is a multi disciplinary social science subject, the department conducts faculty exchange programme with other related disciplines.

Our values are absolutely based on Unity, Equality, and Responsibility; we work for Excellence Innovation and Enterprise. Our success rate is very high. In 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, the pass percentages were 96.67%, 98%, 100%, 100%, 100% respectively, in Honours course. Our teaching learning methodology is characterised by
